“Acts Of Man” by Midlake Is anyone out there right now not listening to this record?. Album cover of the year, if not disc of the year.
Video from bluegrass night at Bartlett’s house last week. We try to get together to celebrate our inner hillbilly every few weeks or so. That’s The Indian on banjo, Jeff on guitar, and Bartlett on the kit. I’m normally on washtub bass but somebody had to hold the camera. *Edit: I shot this in high-def so please watch it in 1080p, you rube.
“Brothers” by Hot Chip From their new album One Life Stand, set to release on February 9th. You can check out the video for the first single, also called “One Life Stand”, here on YouTube. I was going to post the actual video here instead of providing a link. However, embedding has been disabled by Hot Chip’s record company because revenue cannot be earned if the video is not played on YouTube’s website. This is a very interesting phenomenon which you should read more about here in a very articulate letter written by Damian Kulash of the band OK Go.
Why is seven layers the magic number when making a seven layer dip? Six doesn’t seem like enough to get the job done, and eight is just absurd. Seven perfect. It must have something to do with the balance of the universe or the pyramids or Elvis.
“The High Road” by Broken Bells This is the first single from Broken Bells, the first “supergroup” of 2010, consisting of James Mercer from The Shins and Danger Mouse from Gnarls Barkley. They sound exactly like you would expect a Shins/Gnarls combination to sound. Which is good. A little electronic, a little jangly, a little spacey. It’s too late to change your mind… And in other news, I already hate that fucking Vampire Weekend album. It took three weeks.
Today, I was introduced to the Chocodile. Apparently, I have been missing out.
Want.
Tonight, I signed up for the RPM Challenge: Record a 10 track 35 minute album in 28 days. 2010 is the 5th anniversary of the RPM Challenge and there are already 880 bands signed up. I’ll be recording an album of electronic music under my alias - Golden Slumbers. See you on March 1st.
