It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood today. I shot this video on my phone while walking home.
A picture I took a few days ago of California’s first green bike box along “The Wiggle” on Scott Street about a block from my house. Part of my New Year’s resolution this year is to buy a fucking bike and stop being such a fat ass. Or a new skateboard.
Pictures I took today about 900 feet above the city. More here on Flickr.

I was at the dog park this afternoon minding my own business when the Navy Blue Angels suddenly appeared out of the wild gray yonder. They are in town for Fleet Week and were scheduled to perform yesterday, but it was canceled due to fog. Doesn’t look much better today, but I guess the Navy is throwing caution to the wind to give San Franciscans what they want to see. A vulgar display of military power.
The Homestead at Folsom and 19th in the Mission District. One of the oldest bars in the city.
The Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival was this weekend in San Francisco. It’s three day FREE concert in Golden Gate Park, financed exclusively by some billionaire bluegrass fan. No sponsorship, no donations, not subsidized by over-priced beer sales, nothing. All completely free and almost a little creepy this day and age. There are six stages and the lineup is so huge (MC Hammer?) it’s not worth trying to list here (but check it out here). We met our friend Trevor there on Saturday and saw Steve Martin (yes, that Steve Martin), Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder, and Gillian Welch. We cut out just before Steve Earle, which I deeply regret. There were literally about a million people there and it was almost too crowded to walk.
Spectators Casual heckling Mayor Newsom throws out the first pitch Newsom singing the Star Spangled Banner "Lets throw some steel" The heat of battle Picking up some new steel Fire power Bartlett bringing the heat On Saturday, I attended the Inaugural San Francisco International Open Horseshoe Tournament with Bartlett, Brennan, and The Indian. The tournament was held to celebrate the restoration and re-opening of the previously abandoned horseshoe pits in Golden Gate Park. If you’ll recall about five months ago we took the Swiss guys there to play when the pits were still an undiscovered overgrown homeless camp. There were several high-profile professional horseshoe players in the tournament (including 2-time world champion Brian Simmons) and Mayor Gavin Newsom threw out the inaugural “pitch”. In the end, both of our two-man teams were eliminated but the all you could drink PBR and pulled pork sandwiches took the sting off the loss. Click here to see the rest of the pictures. Here’s an interesting article about the restoration of the horse and horseshoe pitcher murals at the pits.
Tamale lady strikes again.
Saturday afternoon at Zeitgeist.
Late dinner at Nopa with Molly’s best friend Nads, in town visiting from New York.
Molly and Sarah at Battery Chamberlin in the Presidio of San Francisco (next to Baker Beach). The battery was originally built to protect San Francisco Bay, but now only functions a national monument and small museum. There still is a 6 inch artillary gun mounted on the roof.
